Overview

Join Beejhy Barhany in our 1887 Main Sanctuary to craft your own signature Ethiopian spice blend!

Join Chef Beejhy Barhany for a flavorful, hands-on journey into Berbere—the bold heart of Ethiopian cooking—while discovering the ancient history and culinary traditions of Ethiopian Jews (Beta Israel). In Amharic, the primary language spoken in Ethiopia, "berbere" literally means "pepper" or "hot," but the blend of spices used in Berbere yields a uniquely complex flavor profile beyond traditional heat with rich, smoky, earthy, and sweet notes. In this workshop, you will explore how spice, community, and ritual come together at the table, learn about festive dishes and heritage, and blend your own custom Berbere to take home.

Program Highlights:

  • Learn about the rich history of Ethiopian Jewry in a beautiful historic setting.
  • Dive into Ethiopian food culture and the significance of Berbere
  • Create your own spice blend to take home.

No experience or knowledge necessary. All materials will be provided.
